Join our discussion group where this week we’ll be doing a quick recap of the GFC and having a discussion on whether we’re headed for another.
There’s no assumed knowledge but it’ll help you if you take a look at the activities this week:
If you’re not sure what the GFC actually is, watching ‘Inside Job’ is probably a good start. If after a week and a half of mid-semester break you still don’t have time to spare then this youtube video gives a reasonable overview. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPOv72Awo68)
Has financial development made the world riskier (Rajan, 2005) - a paper that was referenced in Inside Job and served as a warning for what could occur.
Have a read of some recent news articles. What’s your outlook? Do you think we’re headed for another global recession as a result of policy or is this just a whole lot of people thinking “well it’s about time we had another”…
As usual, the rooms booked from 5pm so you’re welcome to come and hang out from then. We’ll kick the ‘formalities’ off from around 6pm until whenever we run out of things to talk about.
If you’re coming along and wish to join us for a bite to eat, you’re welcome to do so. We ask people to chip in $5-10 to help cover costs. If you’re planning to come along, head on over to https://www.uonefs.org/products/food to pay. Doing this before the night helps us know how many people we’re to cater for.
The reading group mailing list and discounted food is a perk of being an EFS member, you can signup over at our memberships page. To join the reading group mailing list and receive updates on the readings, send a blank email to email@example.com
